A custom Next.js rebuild for ACTIVE
A full rebuild of the digital foundation for a cannabis vape hardware manufacturer — faster, more secure, and far easier to navigate.

About the project
What we built
ACTIVE makes vape hardware for hundreds of cannabis brands, and its site had fallen behind the company it represented. The interface predated the current identity, a catalogue spanning dozens of SKUs was harder to explore than it needed to be, and performance lagged on the devices most visitors actually arrived with.
Underneath, the platform carried security weaknesses the team had already been bitten by — which meant a surface-level redesign was never going to be enough. We rebuilt the foundation on Next.js: a modern, statically rendered front end with a hardened architecture behind it.
The design system had to work at both ends of the palette, because the hardware photography demands it — some products read on a dark frame, others on a light one. The same hero component holds either way. Navigation was restructured around how buyers actually shop the catalogue: platforms, all-in-ones, cartridges, and batteries, one hover away rather than several clicks deep.
On mobile that catalogue is restructured into accordions rather than shrunk down, with product thumbnails beside product names so a buyer can recognise hardware by sight. The full engagement and its outcomes are covered in the ACTIVE case study linked below.
